Waco - Well, Mark Beasley finally beat the Longhorns!
Unfortunately, three years too late.
Junior quarterback Mark Beasley helped lead Baylor to a 23-20 win over the rival Texas Longhorns on Saturday night at Floyd Casey Stadium. Mired in a backup roll for two years, Mark finally got the chance to shine as starter this year. In a season that started with a disastrous 45-10 loss to Miami in Waco, this was a game that finally may give Mark a chance to shine as a college quarterback. Passing for three touchdowns, and running for nearly one hundred yards on the ground, he finally has a signature victory.
This one was extra special. Just two years removed from having his scholarship yanked by the University of Texas due to an assault caught on tape his senior year of high school, he beats the team he grew up idolizing. While Texas is down this year, Baylor still got its first win over the Horns in six years. After taking the final snap in the victory formation, Mark let a yell that could be heard for a mile. Hey, who could blame him. A win over these Longhorns will at least be one step in the right direction to eliminating those haunting memories from three years.
Finally, with a win over these Longhorns, Mark Beasley can erase the demonizing and haunting memories of that disastrous fumble that cost Quanah a win against the Dobie Longhorns three years ago. These weren't the same band of Quanah High mates on that field against Dobie, but for Mark, it's still good enough for the moment.
Up next, Baylor's big rival - Texas A&M. Baylor will try for back to back wins against the two big Texas schools when they travel to College Station this Saturday.
